OK, so I've been a fan of Motorhead for many moons now. But like a lot of people who call themselves Motorhead fans, it's mainly the early stuff I have in my collection. The last album I actually bought by them was "Overnight Sensation", and the last one I heard was "Sacrifice", and both of those albums came out years ago!
So, what I'm looking for is this - can someone recommend me some decent Motorhead albums from this decade?? I heard "Inferno" was supposed to be good...

earlier years was mainly about grunge... Nirvana Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in chains...
I was also into Metallica, megadeth, Slayer, Sepultura...

I approve of all those bands, APART from Pearl bloody Jam! I never could get into them. I had the misfortune of seeing them at the Leedsfest a few summers back, and my wife, sister, and mother-in-law all insisted we watch the whole set. Gah!

Ten is still one of my most favourite albums of all time.

Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were my favourite bands from that time, I still love em both. I just bought the new AIC album, but I'm kind of scared to listen to it in case it's crap. I heard the single, it sounded OK though.

not heard the single either... I know just what you mean though.. it's always a little worrying when a band love love bring out new material... you try not to have too much expectation just in case they've turned to shite..

the album 'kiss of death' is quite good, i still wouldn't compare it to the older stuff tho.
i've only heard parts of the most recent one, Motφrizer, but i don't particulary like it
probably worth still checking out!
and if you're taking suggestions, a bitta Sonic Youth can never go wrong, all 15 albums hah

One of the most underrated Motorhead albums ever is Another Perfect Day. Everyone moaned about it because Eddie Clarke wasn't on it, but it really is very good. Different, but still one of the better albums (and certainly better than Bomber or Iron Fist). 1916 is quite good as well, probably the last one I heard that I thought really sounded like Motorhead if you know what I mean.

something that always frustrates me is when a band attempts to recreate their sound, but they do it in such a way, they're not the same band anymore.
many argue that they do it to reach out to new fans, but by doing it, they sometimes lose a lot of the old fans.
motorhead are deff a band which have changed their sound quite a bit, but generally they seem to keep me nicely as a fan ((:
No, can't say I've ever heard of The Birthday Party, but the fact that I'm only 15 does mean I lack quite a bit of knowledge from that era!

Ah! I just asked about the BP because you mentioned Sonic Youth, I didn't realise you were that young!
The Birthday Party was Nick Cave's first band. Fucking brilliant they were. I think they were only together until about 1983, but their stuff still sounds brilliant today. I would strongly recommend their album HITS if you've never heard any of their stuff, or maybe have a look on the internet for songs like Release The Bats, Kiss Me Black, She's Hit, Jennifer's Veil, Fears Of Gun, Friend Catcher...I could go on but I won't!

Yeah...they were one of these bands like Bauhaus, The Stooges, Velvet Underground, who weren't really appreciated when they were together but got a bigger following after they split up.
The Birthday Party are still one of my favourite bands ever. I saw Nick Cave live a few years ago, he's an amazing performer. He puts so much into every single song, I was really impressed (especially since he's about 50 or thereabouts!)
Right, "Motorizer" the last one was good. "Inferno" is another good one and "We are Motorhead" is well worth having.
I think there recent albums have been a return to form.
Oh and "Hammered"
I love the early stuff, and went off them around the "Overnight sensation" "March or Die" period. But the albums mentioned above are rather "spiffing"

Oh yeah, the early stuff is fucking great isn't it?? I don't think I'll ever tire of Overkill, Ace of Spades, No Sleep Til Hammersmith, etc etc!

I saw them last year supporting Alice Cooper at Wembley.
Joan Jett was first on, then Motorhead and (obviously) Alice.

I only ever saw them once, which was in 1986 when I was 15...it was their 10th anniversary gig and as I recall a naked woman jumped out of a big cake and kissed Lemmy. It was a bit surreal. Supporting was Wendy O Williams, if you remember her...
Oh! and avoid "Snakebite love"

I think the weakest album I ever heard by them was Bastards, although Bomber is pretty crap too.
havent read all the threads as motorhead is the hubbys domain not mine but he says Inferno, Kiss of Death, We are Motorhead and Motorizer are all good, but in that order with Inferno as the best.
All sounds the same to me, 11 years with him and I can tell bands apart but not albums!

I dunno, I liked a lot of those Seattle bands band not Pearl Jam for some reason. Me and some friends compared notes about it in the pub a little while back and none of them like PJ either!
