Unwise heatwave wardrobes

As the UK swoons in a 30-plus degree heatwave, I can't help but marvel at some of the outfits I've seen over the last couple of days around Welwyn Garden City. As I gasped at the heat in the car the other day I drove past a guy with shoulder length hair (not tied back), a black t-shirt, leather trousers, New Rock boots, and a full-length leather coat. Which I wholely support, but good god man! In this heat I would have thought that was suicide. The next day I spotted a couple of guys sporting the full urban kit, including the cap with the hoodie pulled up over it! Are you insane, I wondered??

Ah well, good luck to em. Their resilience to this heat obviously far outstrips mine...

It is incredible that some people just seem to get on with it - I melt and look a bloody sweaty mess even in shorts and a tee shirt so I have no idea how other people manage in full length leather garb x

It is tricky appearing rock, goth cool and being actually cool in this heat. I'm wearing black Vans flip flops with cropped black jeans with a studded belt and black vest combo. I have serious doubts about the studded belt with flippys

I think I'd faint with the heat in that gettup! (not that I wear male attire but I am sure you get what I mean!)

I struggle with a short skirt and t shirt at the moment (although strangely today my skirt is long, yet gyspy style so wuite cool) especially on the tube

  Ah...I don't envy anyone having to go on the tube in this weather. I was still living in Walthamstow until a couple of years ago and there was one particularly hot summer I remember around that time. London Underground's response was to put posters up saying "carry plenty of water with you. Oh, and if you think you're going to faint get off the tube". Twats!

  Nah, more of a traditional looking metaller I would say. I can't recall the t-shirt he was wearing...no, wait, I can - it was Trivium. Who are crap, but at least they're metal rather than emo.

  You're not wrong. There's some bellend who I keep seeeing walking around our local Morrisons (which is freezing cold all year round) with no shirt on. You're not on Big Brother mate - put some fucking clothes on!!

My son and I have been arguing this last week because he won't leave the house without his sweater and coat. Like - wearing them! He says it will be all my fault if he catches a cold or gets wet in the rain, if the weather turns. He's obviously been living in northern Scotland too long!

  Ah bless! When she was little my sister uesd to try to wear t-shirts all year round, it would be January and she would go "but the sun's out!". The sun may be out, but it's still January in the UK I would try to explain...

    Yes, having gotten my kids to relinquish their coats, I then can't get them back into them when the bad weather sets in. Kids, eh?

It is odd to me that our identity is so wrapped up in what we wear that we stubbornly cling to that identity no matter what the external conditions.

I've been to weddings,for example,where great upset is caused by a person refusing to conform to a dress code just for one day.

  Well, I love my clothes, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't like to think it defined my whole identity! Mind you, you kind of do feel like that when you're younger I suppose.

sounds like they were impervious to the heat just like some people seem impervious to the cold...we see some walking around when it's really, really cold here in a t.shirt and light trousers or bare midriffs on the girls and it just makes me feel frozen looking at them...LOL...GBHs...XXX

Amazing !

I saw two young women wearing burkas ( ? ) the headdress that muslim women are supposed to wear. Fabric wrapped tightly round face and hair , long sleeves, long skirts .. everything covered under layers. Apart from hot I would feel suffocated.. it would be like being in a straight jacket ! Of course I know the reason why they do it .. but it just seems like unnecessary suffering to me. Each to their own , I suppose.

        Not sure.......I don't know what New Rock boots look like, but he certainly fit's the rest of the description don't you think, and it was pretty hot in my neck of the woods when he blogged that pic
