What do you all think to the new Doctor Who? Does it measure up to the old stuff? Is it way better than the old stuff? Is that last question complete heresy to some of you??
I watched it as a kid back when Tom Baker was in it, so inevitably to me he IS the Doctor, but I have to say David Tennant has really made it his own. Although I did like Christopher Eccleston as well...shame really, he was the best Doctor for a long time and then David Tennant came along and eclipsed him!
Anyway, I didn't expect to like the new Doctor Who stuff at all and was pleasantly surprised...there's been a few wobbly moments but generally the standard has been really high. My only (very minor) complaints are 1) it's not creepy enough, too much action-packed-adventure-with-explosions and not enough freaky stuff (although "Blink" was genuinely scary), and 2) I don't like this "story arc" business - just because it works with shows like Buffy doesn't mean it will work with Doctor Who, and it often forces a crash-bang-wallop series finale that is unnecessary and often OTT. Although if they're just doing "specials" now instead of a full season then that's the last niggle taken care of, and since Stephen Moffat (writer of "Blink" and several other well creepy episodes) is taking over the writing then that's the other one sorted as well. Maybe I should shut up now...
One last thing. Billie Piper is still a hard act to follow (although Freema Aygeman and Catherine Tate were sort of OK) - has anyone been mentioned as the next assistant?

It was always TOM BAKER for me.
